Coloring Projects

Coloring as an art form has been going on since the dawn of man. The earliest forms of coloring date back to prehistoric times when cavemen would “color” their story on the walls of caves with burnt charcoal or other natural materials that produced a transferable image.

There are many different forms of coloring projects that exist and this site focuses on the art of coloring with crayons.

Crayons have been a staple in most kid’s childhoods and many a budding young artist got their first taste of the art by coloring and being able to stay in the lines.

Coloring books were one of the greatest inventions ever devised. These simple plain black and white books have kept many a kids and their parents busy for many hours. The first coloring book made was called “The Little Folks’ Painting book” and was published in 1879. At that time, they used paint to color with as crayons had yet to be invented.

Today, there are many different types of coloring books to pick from that cover everything from Apples to Zebras.

With the advent of crayons in 1903 buy Edwin Binny and Harold Smith, coloring took on a whole new meaning. They released the first ever Crayola Crayon pack of 8 crayons with the basic colors and sold for a nickel a pack.

Technology has come a long way since those days and today you can even create your own crayons with the Crayola Crayon Factory. You can use it in your home and is easy enough to use so kids can make their own crayons. It adds a whole new level of interactivity to the meaning of coloring.
